Back in August, I took part in a competition called Ludum Dare (http://www.ludumdare.com). The aim of the competition is to create a game from scratch within 48hrs using a community voted theme. It’s been itching me for a while to take part in the competition as I think it’s an excellent excuse to spend a weekend doing what I love most – Making games.
This Ludum Dare’s theme was “Escape”. I ended up creating a little eerie adventure game called “Still Dreaming” that takes you through a few simple puzzles. You’re playing as the main character caught in this abstract dream world and your goal ist to escape it. My main motivation was to create something with a distinct atmosphere that would draw the player into the bizarre dreamscape. Overall I think I succeeded fairly well in that aspect. Here’s a screenshot from the game:
If you know what you’re doing it’ll only take you about 5 minutes to play through the whole experience. Unfortunately I couldn’t make more content happen in the 48hrs that I had. However, I am planning on extending the game as I’ve received some pretty encouraging comments over on the Ludum Dare page.
If you want to give the game a try clickety click through here (runs as a java applet in the browser): Still Dreaming
